Why not start one sister?!
is there a local masjd? perhaps you can suggest the idea and you can make timing as part of the masjd schedule that focusses on the muslim youth there. A youth program on a weekly or daily basis.
Let us know what you think :)
sis, in my opinion there is no cohesion within the muslim community up in wollongong, espescially the youth. to cater for the muslim community in the illwarra there are two masjids. the one i attend regularly stinks like fish and feet cos no one cleans it, and the space for the sisters is severely limited. I don't want to be picky, but that's the situation up here. You do what you can, but you can't do everything. No wonder so many young Muslim youths in the Illawarra don't follow the path of Islam, or find it extremely difficult to do so.
There are lectures on Friday night...but...they're repetitive (alhamdulilah we always need reminders).
The issue would be how to make the youth group 'cool' so young people want in, not out.

Why not submit a request in writing to the masjid ?
Set out what you would like to see happen and express what you believe the youth would find interesting and cool.
Its worth a shot and remember sis Allah (swt) has told us "Then shall anyone who has done an atom's weight of good, see it! "099.007
Also about the cleaniless of the masjid, why not clean the sisters area and make an example to the rest of the sisters who go ? You may then also be able to set up a roster on who is going to clean on what days etc.
Cleaning the Masjid is a great honor in the sight of Allah. The Prophet (SalAllahu Alayhi wasalam) insisted to pray upon the grave of a Companion who used to clean the Masjid when he heard that the former had died. source (http://www.geocities.com/mutmainaa/mosque/active_masjid.html)
Let us know if u decide to go ahead with any of these ideas and then u can keep us posted on the outcomes

Its a shame that there are alot of places around Australia that have no where for the youth to go.
When the youth get out of hand and start heading towards haram locations for entertainment we then start hearing how so many youth are into haram habits.
The people in control of masjids, and any Islamic organisation really need to pull their heads out, look towards the youth and what our needs are and start creating facilities that will cater to our needs.
We are the future generation of muslims, we cant do it alone, we need guidance and support.

thanks for all ur responses.
regarding the creation of one, i am currently in no position to personally act upon that. i don't know how the masjid here works. Regarding cleaning the masjid, well that's more of the brothers job, as the girls have a little rectangular area, with the men taking the majority of the space.
But alhamdulilah the Womens Officer of MAWU (Muslim Association of Wollongong University) put a suggestion list up at uni for people to write down any ideas they have for the Muslim girls to do stuff together. that's a start.
