It might be a lil weird and funny saying this, but to be honest the hardest sunnah for me is when drinking water...

I find it so difficult to actually sit down and take a sip at once :oops:

ya Allah guide us and keep us steadfast!

hehe, yeh this one's a bit of a problem for me too (i.e. the sitting)

I found this about the sunnah related to drinking:

2. Among the Prophetic sunnas related to drinking are:

a) Beginning in the name of Allah, by saying Bismillah or Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Raheem. Some extended this to every sip;

b) Drinking with one’s right hand, because it is disliked to drink with one’s left hand unless there is a genuine excuse;

c) Drinking between three breaths;

d) Not breathing into one’s drink;

e) Not drinking while standing;

f) Drinking in sips rather than gulps, for the latter is disliked;

g) Not drinking excessively. The sunna is to eat and drink in moderation, such that it does not lead to harm or laziness that prevents one from worship.

h) Praising Allah after drinking, by saying Alhamdulillah (‘All praise is to Allah’), or any of the sunna invocations after drinking, such as Alhamdu liLlahi lLadhi at`amana wa saqana wa ja`alana muslimeen]

Find a couple of brothers and try and fast together and break fast together on mondays and thursdays if u can, it'll make it alot more easier insha'Allah!

Sunnah prayers is definately something I need to work on. The hardest one to maintain is probably the 4 before dhur (noon) prayer and the 4 after dhur(noon) prayer.

One of the Sunnah's I need to work on is using Siwak to brush my teeth before each salat.

Masha Allah! Jazak Alahu khair for sharing that info, i have been working on it, and alhamdulilah getting there.

Yeah, i too find the thu'hur sunnah a lil difficult, the previous sunnah especially.

But just a quick note insha Allah, for the thu'hur sunnah prayer, isn't it 2 before and four after or vice versa?

Because the total sunan for the prayers are said to be 12, and so it will be:

2 before fajr
2 before thu'hur and 4 after (or vice versa)
none for asr
2 after maghrib, and
2 after isha

That's from what i know, wallahu a'lam.

Sobhanalah! This is a sunnah that's rarely practiced, jazak Allahu khair for mentioning it as it is a reminder to revive as such in our day to day lives.

Here are some info about the Siwak posted long ago on the forums, insha Allah it'll be interesting to read:

The 4 rakaats after dhurh is one of the non-confirmed sunnahs, other non confirmed sunnahs include:

- 4 rakats after Zuhr (either by making the 2 confirmed sunna rakats 4, or separately),
- 4 or 2 rakats before Asr
- 6 rakats (salat al-awwabin) after Maghrib, ideally in sets of two (the confirmed sunna can be included as part of the 6 if one chooses)
- 2 rakats before Isha
- 4 rakats after isha (one can include the confirmed sunnas in this if one wishes).

Read this response insha'Allah:

Question: I've always been taught that the sunnah prayers are as follows:
* 2 before fajr
* 2 or 4 before Dhuhr and 2 after
* 2 before Asr
* 2 after Maghrib
* 2 after Isha then witr
The other day I was talking to someone who was doing a bunch more and said that in the Hanafi madhab this was the way it is suggested. I cant even begin to remember how many, but it was a lot. Do you know anything about this?

Walaikum assalam,

What you mention is true in the Shafi`i school. The only difference, in terms of confirmed sunnas, in the Hanafi school is that the pre-fard sunna of Zuhr is 4 rakats. Two would not fulfill the sunna.

Besides the confirmed sunnas, there are many non-confirmed sunnas related to the fards, such as praying

4 rakats after Zuhr (either by making the 2 confirmed sunna rakats 4, or separately),
4 or 2 rakats before Asr
6 rakats (salat al-awwabin) after Maghrib, ideally in sets of two (the confirmed sunna can be included as part of the 6 if one chooses)
2 rakats before Isha
4 rakats after isha (one can include the confirmed sunnas in this if one wishes).
And Allah knows best.

Wassalam,
Faraz Rabbani

Assalamu Alaykom,

What have u been praying wrong Sister?

U mean to say uve been praying 2 b4 and 4 after?

Dont necessarily conclude its wrong, i wasnt trying to say it was wrong

but please take note that in the answer I posted, Faraz Rabbani mentions the Hanafi opinion

He mentions that the pre-fard sunnah in Hanafi is 4 rakaat, which is the difference between the 2 rakaat in shafi'i.

Assalamu Alaykom,

just on the issue of confirmed and non-confirmed sunnahs, if u want a detailed explanation from a Hanafi perspective read the following insha'Allah:
