How to get rid of grease and grime inside your oven...

1. Make a paste of one-cup vinegar and 1/4 cup powdered laundry detergent.

2. Heat your oven for 5-minutes at 350 degrees and turn off.

3. Spread the paste around the oven, applying it more heavily to very greasy areas.

4. Leave paste on for an hour, and then use a plastic spatula to gently scrape the dirt away.


To prevent greasy buildup in the first place, dip a sponge in full-strength vinegar and wipe down all sides of the oven

Unpleasant Odors...

* To stop unpleasant cooking odors from permeating throughout the entire house, boil a cup or two of vinegar in a pot in the stove. The vinegar will absorb the odors.

* When cooking cabbage, add a few drops of vinegar to prevent the unpleasant odors in the first place.

* Accidentally burnt the pot roast? Soak a towel in vinegar, wring it out, and wave it around the room. No one will know what you did to his or her dinner.

* Prefer using the microwave? Boil 1/4 cup of vinegar in a bowl of water to keep it grease free and smelling as fresh as the day you bought it.

* Get rid of the sludge in your automatic drip coffee maker by running full-strength vinegar through a normal brew cycle. Rinse by running plain water through the cycle two or three times.

* Remove the lime coating on your teakettle by filling it with water and adding a half-cup of vinegar. Let it stand overnight, then rinse with clean water and dry.

Baking Soda

* A box or small bowl of baking soda in the refrigerator, freezer, or any cupboard will keep away unpleasant odors.

* Similarly, baking soda will keep away garbage odors; sprinkle the bottom of the pail, and then sprinkle again after you put a new bag in.

* Grease Fires can be extinguished by sprinkling baking soda on them.

* To clean surfaces, sprinkle baking soda on a damp cloth. Wipe, then rinse with clean water.

* To remove stale smells from food containers, rinse out with hot water and baking soda. If the smell persists, let the container soak overnight in the baking soda and water mixture.

* To clean silver, use a paste of 3 parts baking soda to one part water. Rub the paste onto each item, then rinse with warm water and dry with a soft cloth.

* To remove scuff marks or grease spills from the floor, sprinkle with baking soda and then wipe with a warm, damp cloth. This is even safe for no-wax floors.

* For burnt-on food in the bottom of pots, sprinkle with baking soda, and then add hot water. Let soak overnight; the dried on food will come loose much more easily.

* Clean sink and tub with full-strength vinegar. Simply apply with a sponge, wipe clean to a sparkly shine.

* Clean you ceramic tiles with a solution of 1/4-cup vinegar to one-gallon warm water. If the grout between your tiles is looking hard, dip a toothbrush in full strength vinegar and gently scrub.

* Get rid of that nasty, grimy dirt that builds up around the faucets by soaking paper towels in full strength vinegar and wrapping them around the fixtures. Let sit for one hour, and then clean as usual.

* Soap scum & hard water spots on the tub and shower stall? Soak a sponge in full strength vinegar, wipe, let stand for five minutes then rinse with clean water. Water spots on sliding shower doors disappear after cleaning with half water and half vinegar solution.

* To remove stubborn stains from most surfaces, use a baking soda paste (3 parts baking soda, one part water). Apply, let stand, then scrub or wipe clean.

* Hairbrushes and combs can be cleaned in a baking soda solution.

* To help avoid clogged drains, pour 1/4 cup baking soda down weekly. Rinse throughly with hot water.

* A solution of equal amounts of vinegar and water is a well-known window-washing trick. Dip black and white newspaper pages into the solution and wipe the glass until it's almost dry. Finish wiping with a dry newspaper page. The streaks will disappear and the window will shine.


* Stains on your bedroom carpet? Combine 2 tablespoons of detergent, three tablespoons of vinegar and one quart of warm water. Work mixture into the stain, but don't soak. Blot with clean cloth.


* Accidentally spilled white glue on rug or sofa? Remove it with white vinegar.


* Clean up a puppy accident on your carpet by blotting up as much of the liquid as possible. Dab the spot with equal parts vinegar and warm, soapy water. Blot again with a clean, white cloth until no more liquid is absorbed.


* If your animal continues to stain the place, try spraying vinegar on the spot. The smell should turn him off.


* To remove scents from a carpet, sprinkle with baking soda. Let stand for at least fifteen minutes, then vacuum. Repeat as needed.


* If there is a smoker in the house, put baking soda in the bottom of each ashtray to keep away some of the stale smoke smell, especially in the bedroom.


* Baking soda in the litterbox will help prevent odors.


* To quickly clean pets and remove "wet dog" odor, sprinkle with baking soda and brush out their fur.


* To help remove spills, blot as much as possible. Then clean as you normally would. When finished, sprinkle with baking soda. Vacuum. This will decrease the chance that some of the spilled item will remain in the carpet and cause unpleasant odors later.


* Children's toys can be cleaned using 1/4 cup baking soda in 1 quart warm water. Submerge in this mixture (or wipe with a cloth dampened in it), then rinse with clear water.

Stains...

Antiperspirant :

Blot the spot with paper towel dampened with a solution of baking soda and vinegar. Wash as usual in the hottest water that's safe for the fabric.

Glue:

Loosen the dried on glue by soaking a clean cloth in vinegar and saturating the spot until it's gone. Grass - Mix one-third cup vinegar and two-thirds cup water. Apply the solutions to the stain and blot. Repeat the process, as needed, then wash as usual.

Lint Remover:

Keep lint from clinging to your dark clothes by adding 1/2 cup vinegar to the rinse cycle.

Mildew:

* Dab vinegar on the soiled areas to kill the mildew. Let the item sit in the sun for a few hours and then wash separately from other items.

* Replace half of each measure of laundry detergent with baking soda to keep clothing fresh.

* To remove grease stains, either add baking soda to the wash load or pretreat the stains with a baking soda paste.

* Pretreat diapers in their pail with baking soda. This will keep odors from becoming overpowering between washings.

* If you keep a laundry hamper, add some baking soda every day to keep the hamper from smelling between loads

Natural Household Hints


1) Flies or bees bothering you? Spray them with hairspray and they will take a quick dive.


2) Sealed envelope - Put in the freezer for a few hours, then slide a knife under the flap. The envelope can then be resealed.)


3) Use Empty toilet paper roll to store appliance cords. It keeps them neat and you can write on the roll what appliance it belongs to.

4) For icy door steps in freezing temperatures: get warm water and put Dawn dishwashing liquid in it. Pour it all over the steps. They won't refreeze.


5) Crayon marks on walls? This worked wonderfully! A damp rag, dipped in baking soda. Comes off with little effort


6) Opening brand new jars can be a feat in itself. Well, I have found a way to make it the easiest thing to do. Instead of banging a jar of jam, pickles, etc., with a knife until it loosens up, I simply reach into the drawer and pull out the handy nutcracker. It adjusts to the size of the jar and I simply give it a good twist and off pops the lid!


7) Blood stains on clothes? Not to worry! Just pour a little peroxide on a cloth and proceed to wipe off every drop of blood. Works every time!


8) Use vertical strokes when washing windows outside and horizontal for inside windows. This way you can tell which side has the streaks. Straight vinegar will get outside windows really clean. Don't wash windows on a sunny day. They will dry too quickly and will probably streak.


9) Spray a bit of perfume on the light bulb in any room to create a lovely light scent in each room when the light is turned on. Place fabric softener sheets in dresser drawers and your clothes will smell freshly washed for weeks to come. You can also do this with towels and linens.


10) Candles will last a lot longer if placed in the freezer for at least 3 hours prior to burning.

11) To clean artificial flowers, pour some salt into a paper bag and add the flowers. Shake vigorously as the salt will absorb all the dust and dirt and leave your artificial flowers looking like new! Works like a charm!


12) To easily remove burnt on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to a boil on stovetop.

13) Spray your Tupperware with nonstick cooking spray before pouring in tomato based sauces and there won't be any stains.

14) When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use a bit of the dry cake mix instead and there won't be any white mess on the outside of the cake.


15) Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks.


16) When boiling corn on the cob, add a pinch of sugar to help bring out the corn's natural sweetness.


17) Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.


18) To get rid of itch from mosquito bites, try applying soap on the area and you will experience instant relief.


19) Ants, ants, ants everywhere ... Well, they are said to never cross a chalk line. So get your chalk out and draw a line on the floor or wherever ants tend to march. See for yourself.


20) Use air-freshener to clean mirrors. It does a good job and better still, leaves a lovely smell to the shine.


21) When you get a splinter, reach for the scotch tape before resorting to tweezers or a needle. Simply put the scotch tape over the splinter, then pull it off. Scotch tape removes most splinters painlessly and easily.
