Asalamu-alikum brothers and sisters,

I have a very important question, the other day i was watching this DVD about how the Prophet (PBUH) used to pray, its an islamic productions movie. It said that you point ur finger towards the Qiblah at the start of tashud and hold it up until the end. I was actually taught to hold my finger during the shehada( i.e ashadu ana la ilha ila allah wa ana Muhamadan a'buhu wa rasouloh)only, and then put it down and continue my tashud.

Please help, i'm confused now, i only watched tht DVD so that i can pray lyk hw the Prophet(PBUH) used to pray, now im REALLY confused:confu2:

Assalamu Alaykum,

S.O.A - please try not to be too concerned about this.

The best way is to do it is you start off with your finger down (like you normally do it) then when it comes to the part where you say the shahada, you raise your finger. After you finished saying the shahada - lower your finger a little bit so that it is still up - but only a little bit.

Or, you can continue to do it the way you currently do - by only raising it when you say the shahada. The Prophet pbuh used to do it both ways - sometimes he would do it the way i described above, and sometimes he would do it the way you currently do it (i.e only raising your finger when you say the shahada then lower it again).

I hope this helps, if not - please let me know.

Wassalams,
Omar
