Sydney and large parts of NSW are shrouded in dust this morning as the state experiences severe winds and unseasonably warm temperatures.
Bureau of Meteorology spokeswoman Jane Golding said dust had settled on much of the state, including Sydney.
"It's pretty widespread," she said.
"We've had reports of low visibility up out as far up as Moree, Dubbo, Canberra's got some raised dust in the area and Wollongong, so it's very widespread."
The Bureau has issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds in Sydney with a gale warning issued for Sydney closed waters.
All Sydney ferry services have been cancelled this morning and international flights have been diverted to Brisbane and Melbourne.
Ms Golding said the weather system was moving in from the west and Sydney could expect dusty conditions throughout the morning.
Gale force winds of up to 100kph hit the Hunter region before moving through Sydney early this morning.
"Dubbo's still in pretty thick dust. The dust will last a bit but we're also expecting those winds to pick up as well."
Yesterday gale force winds whipped up heavy dust storms and powerful electrical storms across parts of New South Wales.
The NSW State Emergency Service received more than 150 calls for assistance overnight as the gale force winds struck.
Twenty five calls for help came from Broken Hill and 40 from the small town of Crookwell, between Canberra and Sydney, where hail the size of cricket balls has fallen.
The remaining calls were scattered across the state, as far up as Port Macquarie and down to the Victorian border.
The winds will also reach parts of Victoria, where a flash flooding warning has been issued.

Fire threat

A fire weather warning has been issued for southern parts of Queensland and northern parts of New South Wales today.
Fire crews have contained a bushfire that was threatening homes on Macleay Island, between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, overnight.
Police evacuated homes in the area as a precaution, while they burnt off the areas surrounding them.
Strong winds fanned the flames.
Homes are no longer under threat, but fire crews are still working to put out the blaze.

Earthquakes

Two small earthquakes struck Melbourne's south-east in quick succession last night.
A quake measuring 2.6 on the Richter scale occurred about 20 kilometres south of Frankston around 6:20pm AEST.
A magnitude 3.0 tremor struck further south 14 seconds later.
Residents have reported hearing a loud noise and feeling the ground shake, but the State Emergency Service says it has not received any reports of damage.

So who woke up and saw the red sky? Let me share some photos inshallah.

Heres an sms circulating around:

"Let this scence outside remind you of Allah swt's power and remember the major sign of the hour, when the sky will be covered with smoke and the sun rising from its place of setting. Just take a moment to reflect"

Yes subhanAllah this morning when I opened up my eyes while I was in bed, I looked outside my balcony and saw the orangy/browny colour outside. I thought it was just a normal and nice thing and went back to sleep lol. But subhanAllah doesn't seem like that. Alhamdulilah things are going back to normal now, except it's still abit windy.

That sms is a good reminder coz wala that is what I thought when I woke up. I was saying to my friend "Imagine Day of Judgement"...

p.s. heard that its not good to be out and breathing such weather, so try to stay indoors as much as possible!

I woke up and looked out my window and was in complete shock. :eek:I seriously had no idea what it was untill i turned on my TV.
And as sis Rassila mentioned the earthquakes in Melbourne. What the! Since when is there earthquakes in Melbourne.

Hmm is it the sign of the times? - Is Judgement day getting closer? or is it just climate change?
Maybe Allah swt is making the world wake up.

Am i over-reacting or does everybody else agree with me?

^ (no subhana you werent rude, you were surprised.. which is normal! hehe CB and her reactions)

The coolest thing was the trains, if you were catching the early trains to uni/school/work you would have realised, every seat was red! Covered with dust. People were wearing face musks and covering their seats with newspaper.. hilarious

What i found interesting, is on the news, how one person was recorded saying

"Im 38 years old, and im scared" reporter: "dont be scared, all will be okay"

wowee subhan allah, if THIS scares them.. then i dont want to imagine how theyd be when they witness the major signs of alqiyaama. Allahumma 'afeena

Salam,

SubhanAllah, it was pretty awesome...up here at Brisbane it was also pretty red, but no way near as red as Sydney, it was more pinkish.

Just reminds me of the Ayat from Surah Ad-Dukhan:

"Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke.
Covering the people, this is a painful torment.
(They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!"

(Ch 44:V10-12)

Maybe it was a Sign from Allah...a Warning...Australia doesn't tend to get many natural disasters...

I woke up to my whole bathroom being covered in red dust!

Its meant to be quite similar this morning (i,e now) in Broken Hill with a repetition (on a much smaller scale) also in Sydney.

In fact, I can see dust clouding around the street lamps, and a yellow tinge in the air. Plus I can taste the dust very slightly.

I could taste a few particles in my mouth. Had to give my bathroom another wipedown too.

Luckily I left all my windows closed that night because i watched the news the weather forecast said there will be storms.

It was quite unusual for all area's of Australia to be having different weather issues at the same time. NSW- dust storms, Canberra-hail and Melbourne -earthquake.
Maybe it was a sign from Allah swt but i don't think the rest of Australia is worried. Blind people.

Subhanallah, I think almost every muslim woke up to the sight of the blood red sky and thought judgement day!!!!! (I know i did). Even after my family settled me down and explained it was just a dust storm, i still said "if its not judgement day it must be a sign that judgement day is not far off."
The funny thing was the reactions of the non muslims. I asked a few non muslim students at my uni and most said that they thought it was the end of the world, one girl even said "the antichrist is coming".....that freaked me out! Allahu A3lam, maybe this was the wake up call that most needed...or maybe not ( one girl thought it was just fog:rolleyes:).
