    Default Financial Freedom (part 1)

10 Facts On How Islam Liberates You Financially

1- Financial freedom is a matter of choice. We came into this world sustenance-guaranteed from our creator. However, it is our choice to be enslaved by money.

“And kill not your children for fear of poverty. We shall provide sustenance for them as well as for you.” (Al-Isra 17:31)

The Prophet said, "Let the slave of Dinar and Dirham, of Quantify and Khamisa (i.e. money and luxurious clothes) perish for he is pleased if these things are given to him, and if not, he is displeased!" –Collected by Al-Bukhari

2- Your boss can’t starve you. We have to deeply believe that the one who has absolute control of our Rizq (provision) is the one who is above the Thrown. Everything else cannot harm or benefit us without Allah’s permission.

“Say: (O Muhammad to those polytheists) Call upon those whom you assert (to be associate gods) besides Allah, they possess not even the weight of an atom (or a small ant), either in the heavens or on the earth, nor have they any share in either, nor there is for Him any supporter from among them.” (Saba' 34:22)

The Prophet said, “And know that, if the whole nation gathered to benefit you, they would not benefit you except by what Allah has decreed for you; and if they gathered to harm you, they would not harm you except by what Allah has decreed against you.”
    –Collected in Musnad Ahmad

3- We are not abandoned creatures. We are backed from above the seven heavens by the rich and the most generous one.

“And to Allah belong the treasures of the heavens and the earth.” (Al-Munafiqun 63:7)
“That Allah may reward them according to the best of their deeds, and add even more for them out of His Grace. And Allah provides without measure to whom He wills.” (An-Nur 24:38)

“That Allah may reward them according to the best of their deeds, and add even more for them out of His Grace. And Allah provides without measure to whom He wills.” (An-Nur 24:38)

4- Financial freedom is a mental state: the feeling of satisfaction, regardless of your net income.

The Prophet used to say, “If the son of Adam were given a valley full of gold, he would love to have a second one; and if he were given the second one, he would love to have a third, for nothing fills the belly of Adam's son except dust. And Allah forgives he who repents to Him.” –Collected by Al-Bukhari

The Prophet said, “He is successful who has accepted Islam, who has been provided with sufficient for his want and been made contented by Allah with what He has given him.” –Collected by Muslim

5- Sufficiency is not a matter of quantity –but the Barakah of Allah.

The Prophet said, “Food for one person suffices two persons and food for two persons suffices four persons, and food for four persons suffices eight persons.” –Collected by Muslim

6- Only you can disturb your sufficiency

“And strain not your eyes in longing for the things We have given for enjoyment to various groups of them, the splendor of the life of this world that We may test them thereby. But the provision (good reward in the Hereafter) of your Lord is better and more lasting.” (Ta-Ha 20:131)

The Prophet said, “Look at those who are at a lower level than you but don't look at those who are at a higher level than you, for this would make the favors conferred upon you by Allah insignificant in your eyes.” –Collected by Muslim

7- Financial insecurity –the Satan’s trick of enslavement

“Satan threatens you with poverty.” (Al-Baqarah 2:268)

8- Feeling financially insecure won’t speedup your provision nor increase your income.

The Prophet said, “Feel not your provision is belated; for that no servant shall die until he receives his final provision. Thus, fear Allah, and seek with moderation, take the lawful and leave the unlawful.” –Collected in Sahih Al-Jamia’

    9- Allah’s way won’t make us broke

“And they say: ‘If we follow the guidance with you, we would be snatched away from our land.’ Have We not established for them a secure sanctuary (Makkah), to which are brought fruits of all kinds, a provision from Ourselves, but most of them know not.” (Al-Qasas 28:57)

10- Living only for this life is not freedom

“And they rejoice in the life of the world, whereas the life of this world as compared with the Hereafter is but a brief passing enjoyment.” (Ra'd 13:26)

“And when they see some merchandise or some amusement [beating of drum etc.] they disperse headlong to it, and leave you (Muhammad) standing [while delivering Jumu'ah's Khutbah]. Say ‘That which Allah has is better than any amusement or merchandise! And Allah is the Best of providers.’” (Al-Jumu'ah 62:11)

The companion Jabir Ibn Abdullah reported that the Prophet happened to walk through the bazaar coming from the side of 'Aliya and the people were on both his sides. There he found a dead lamb with very short ears. He took hold of his ear and said: “Who amongst you would like to have this for a Dirham (currency unit)?” They said: “We do not like to have it even for less than that as it is of no use to us.” He said: “Do you wish to have it (free of any cost)?” They said: “By Allah, even if it were alive (we would not have liked to possess that), for there is defect in it as its ear is very short; now it is dead also.” Thereupon Allah's Messenger said, “By Allah, this world is more insignificant in the sight of Allah as this (dead lamb) is in your sight.”
    –Collected by Muslim

    Self-Test: Are you financially free?

“La Ilaha Illa Allah” liberates us financially, i.e., nothing is worthy of our total –devotions, emotions, or dedications except Allah. Financial insecurity is a sign of imperfect belief in “La Ilaha Illa Allah.”
