    Default Walaa and Baraa

    From sister Ras's idea, I'm not sure about what this means... so inshaAllah a lengthy explanation from everyone please!

    JazakAllahu Khairan.
    "The Prophet Muhammad (S) is like a spring of pure water in the heart of a desert, or like a source of light in the darkness enveloping the universe. Whoever appeals to this spring can take as much water as to quench his thirst and is purified of all his dirt or pollution, spiritual or intellectual, and illumined with the light of belief."

    Al-Walaa' is associating oneself with all that pertains to Islam, eg. there's Al-walaa' with Allah, His Messenger and the Believers.

    Al-Baraa' is disassociating yourself from the Kuffar and from Shirk.

    I recommend you read what the scholars have said. There is a lot of misconception surrounding this concept.

    It is quite straightforward, really. An example of Al-Baraa' is not partaking in Kafir celebrations (eg. birthdays, new year's eve, christmas, etc).
    The rulings of Al-walaa' wal-baraa' are derived from the Qur'an and Sunnah.

    You have a few Ayat in surat Al-Ma'idah about this {O you who believe, do not take the jews and christians as Awliya' (helpers, associates)...}

    So its about:

    Knowing who your enemies are, and never siding with them

    love for the believers and hatred towards the disbelievers (hatred because, we hate those who disbelieve in Allah swt and His oneness just as He swt does)

    Having allegiance to the believers and its supporters and denouncing the disbelievers and their supporters.

    So examples AGAINST include:

    The scholars who mislead people, water down islam to suit the likes of the western governments.

    Turning a brother in islam to the kuffar. etc

    Its not about how fast we get there.
    Its about what's waiting on the other side.
